Young@Heart NYC
Young@Heart NYC is a chorus of 75 and older singers who perform a mix of rock, pop, R&B, punk, post-punk, and international music. Started in the fall of 2025, it is the first satellite of the world-renowned Young@Heart. The mission: to eliminate ageism and shatter stereotypes.
Young@Heart was founded by Bob Cilman in 1982 at a Western Massachusetts elderly housing project. After 25 years of performing, international tours, and media coverage, the group reached a new level of popularity with the release of the hit 2007 Fox Searchlight documentary, Young@Heart, which features the group’s unforgettable heart-rending version of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” along with spirited performances of everything from James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good)” to Allen Toussaint’s “Yes We Can Can” to Sonic Youth’s “Schizophrenia.”
The New York-based Young@Heart NYC, with rotating soloists and 25 backup singers, rehearses weekly at Henry Street Settlement’s Abrons Arts Center, under the guidance of director David Nagler and multi-instrumentalist David Chalfant. The group’s live debut in March 2026 was a cross-generational benefit concert in collaboration with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.
Like the great city the group calls home, Young@Heart NYC is composed of New Yorkers with different backgrounds and experiences, making music that celebrates them both as individuals and as a collective. Their renditions of songs inspire and delight. They will make you dance, cry, laugh, cheer, and sing along — often simultaneously.
